Jamaica:
If you are more used to spending a fortnight in the Mediterranean,
Jamaica, with its abundance of natural beauty, reggae music and
tropical-tasting food will re-awaken your senses.
- Many hotels and tourist beaches are patrolled by armed security
guards.
- Some beaches are fenced-off and a small charge is payable on
entry.
- Unlike many Mediterranean resorts Jamaica doesn't have an 'evening
stroll' culture. Here visitors rarely leave their hotel after dark.
- Never walk alone, especially at night.
- Cannabis, known locally as 'Ganja' is peddled on almost every
street corner. Say 'No thanks' and move on.
- The Caribbean weather is unpredictable. June to November is the
hurricane season and sharp tropical storms occur most afternoons.
- Heavy downpours often cause power cuts.
